| OKLAHOMA, KEEP OUR LAND
GRAND! Drive Oklahoma's roadways, or walk Oklahoma's parks,
and one thing becomes painfully clear: litter, in all its forms, is a big
problem. Each year. Oklahoma spends millions to clean up the garbage we
drop. And yet, despite the expense, people continue to carelessly discard
their waste. As Oklahoma citizens, we are charged with caring for our
state and all its natural resources. So remember, any excuse to litter is
trash. Do your part to help Oklahoma, Keep Our Land Grand.
HIGHWAY LITTER HOTLINE
A highway litter hotline, sponsored by ODOT, is now active statewide with
a toll-free number: 1-888-5-LITTER. Any person who spots someone littering
can call and report the incident. Postcards then are mailed to alleged
violators describing the time, date, and place, the person was spotted
littering and asking the owner of the vehicle to help keep Oklahoma clean
and attractive.
ROADSIDE LANDSCAPING AND BEAUTIFICATION
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has planted nearly 1,200 acres
of wildflowers statewide during the last eight years. Seeds are donated by
the public and planted by ODOT crews. The ODOT Highway Tree Program will
use $1.08 million in federal enhancement funds and local matching funds to
plant trees along highway roadsides during the next three years.
