Come one and all to this year’s Spring Fling Thing at Lake Murray State Park. Once again this will be the Oklahoma Bicycle Society’s first campout/bike ride for 2008. As usual this is still a NO-T/NO-FEE ride which means you won’t be getting another t-shirt but we won’t charge you either. Of course it will be nice if you bring a few victuals to share at the Saturday evening potluck but even that is not required.

For most participants this will be a campout type of thing but a few may choose to stay at the lodge or rent a cabin. A number of us will arrive Friday evening and camp for the night. Others will come up Saturday morning and some will even stay through Sunday for the Sunday morning breakfast ride. This year we will be staying at the Martin’s Landing campground. This is on the eastside of Lake Murray.

“Well, how do I get there?” you may ask. From OKC take I-35 south to exit 29 and Hwy 70, which is just south of Ardmore a bit. Take Hwy 70 east for about seven or eight miles to Hwy 77S. You come to a four way stop that is Hwy 77S also but this is not it. It will be the second Hwy 77S. Follow Hwy 77S until you see the sign for Martin’s Landing (see map below).

Martin’s Landing does have a nice beach area for you polar bear types who will be swimming in April.

• Ride Distances – 25 and 52.4 miles
• Terrain – Scenic (you know, hilly).

Spring weather in Oklahoma can always be a lot of fun so expect the unexpected but don’t cancel from home. As a wise old rider and weather prognosticator named Fred says, “If it isn’t raining when the ride starts then by all means go. If it starts raining along the way then go back.” There is no official sag for this event but we do manage to get everyone taken care of. If you like to ride a bike with friends, then this will be an event you will not want to miss. Hope to see you there.
